Under 30? Enter our essay competition and set out your green vision for the future of conservatism.

As the Conservative Party looks to renew its philosophical roots following the general election defeat, the Conservative Environment Network will be publishing an essay collection in the summer of 2025 to set out a new vision and fresh approaches to return protecting the environment to the core of conservatism. This essay collection will provide the blueprint and a repository of ideas for conservative environmentalism for the next decade and beyond.

As young people are the future of the conservative movement we wanted to give them a platform in our new essay collection. This is why we have launched an essay competition for young conservatives under 30.

The environment underpins so many crucial policy areas, from security to the economy. As the impacts of climate change become more extreme, demand for action will only grow. Therefore, we are looking for submissions to reflect on: Why the future of conservatism has to be green to win over younger voters.

We are looking for entrants who can think creatively and propose new ideas which are expressed clearly and succinctly. As such, winning entries will be original, thought-provoking, well-argued, and suitably researched.

We are looking for submissions of between 1200 and 1500 words, excluding footnotes. Please use the Chicago citation for your footnotes and write your submission in British English.

The deadline for submissions is midday on Friday 3rd January.

The winning entry will receive a prize of £500 and will be featured in our essay collection along with influential figures from the political, business, and academic worlds. Runners up will each receive a £50 prize and their piece will be published on the CEN blog and promoted on CEN’s social media.
