Members of the Conservative Environment Network have called for more reservoirs to be built in a bid to ensure the nation’s water security throughout increasingly warm summers.
They said this will help avoid regular hosepipe bans and ensure taps do not run dry.
CEN MP Tracey Crouch said: "Unless we want to see longer and more regular hosepipe bans or even water shortages during hot summers, we must build more reservoirs."
"We last built one in 1991. Because of climate change, we must create 30 new ones to secure our water supply in the coming decades."
"Ministers should consider planning rules to ensure local people have a say but crucially speed up the process where communities agree to host one.”
Sally-Ann Hart, Tory MP Hastings and Rye, said: "As the climate changes, we will need more reservoirs to keep the taps running throughout boiling summers, protect wildlife, and enable farmers to keep growing nutritious food.
“We need to get building and ensure these sites deliver for communities and nature.”
