Meanwhile, Michael Gove and Rebecca Pow are among nine former environment and farming ministers who said a potential £100 million cut would take 239,000 hectares out of the nature-friendly farming subsidy scheme.
“When it comes to supporting farmers, strengthening food security and restoring nature, the government needs to put its money where its mouth is and keep the farming budget intact or — better still — increase it in line with inflation,” the group said in a letter organised by the Conservative Environment Network, a caucus of green Tories.
