Norfolk County Council: Norfolk Trees and Hedges Map

  • Location: Norfolk

  • Purpose: The council created the map for planting trees and hedgerows in the local area. The council wanted to ensure that they were planting the right tree in the right place to maximise its positive benefit and to connect habitats. It also is useful to know where trees and hedges once were as it gives a good indication of where they can be reinstated.

  • Description: Using ArcGIS, a geospatial software, the County Council has mapped out where trees and hedges are across Norfolk. Using this data as a reference point aid the county’s one million tree planting effort across Norfolk to enhance biodiversity and help to tackle climate change.

  • Conservative councillor/ council lead: GIS Norfolk, Norfolk County Council Cabinet Member for Environment and Waste, Cllr Eric Vardy.
