North Lincolnshire Council: North Lincolnshire Community Energy

  • Location: North Lincolnshire Council

  • Purpose: The North Lincolnshire Community Energy (NLCE) was established to  enable businesses and individuals to invest in renewable energy that will directly benefit their community. The project aims to decarbonise electricity, lower bills, increase energy security through domestic renewable energy, and accelerate renewable energy deployment.

  • Description: The NLCE is a community benefit society that operates on the basis of community ownership. Residents and businesses can join the scheme by purchasing community shares. The purchase will fund the deployment of renewable energy. The NLCE will reinvest profits back into deploying renewables and to support the community when needed. Recipients of solar panels through the scheme include schools and community hubs.

  • Funding: The funding comes from the Towns Fund grant which North Lincolnshire Council received from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

  • Conservative councillor/ council lead: Cllr Rob Waltham MBE, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council.
