Surrey County Council: Reuse Paint shop

  • Purpose: Each year in the UK, approximately 55 million litres of paint are wasted. Previously in Surrey, tins of water-based paint sent to the recycling centre would have been thrown away. Instead, this new scheme will keep this valuable resource from going to waste, raise money for charity, and provide an affordable, eco-friendly decorating option for local residents.

  • Description: Full or mostly full tins of water-based paint that are brought to the Guildford Community Recycling Centre and deemed appropriate for reuse will be sent to a dedicated paint reuse shop nearby. Rather than pay money, residents can make a donation to Macmillan Cancer Support in exchange for any paint taken from the shop.

  • Conservative councillor/council lead: Cllr Marisa Heath, Environment and Cllr Nathalie Bramhall, waste
