Swindon Borough Council (Conservative lead from 2004 - 2023): Waste & Recycling Education Events

  • Purpose: The project focuses on education as a means to boost local recycling rates, ensuring residents understand how their local recycling system works and what can and cannot be recycled. The sessions engage and educate the community on ideas to recycle more and waste less in creative ways.

  • Description: The council offers free waste and recycling education events for community groups and schools across Swindon. The events communicate the council’s vision for sustainable waste management in Swindon, how waste may be reduced, reused, or recycled, and combatting other, related environmental issues such as litter and graffiti. Residents can request sessions by filling out a short form on the council’s website. Once requested, a representative from the council will be in touch to discuss the logistics and content for the session.

  • Conservative councillor/council lead: Cllr Gary Sumner, shadow leader
